Ri-Concord [Concord's characters re-design]

After the bombshell called Concord hit the video game market, many discussions rose on its eventual demise; i tried to take a constructive approach and use this as an opportunity to practice on my character design skills, trying to reimagine and just reinterpret with small changes the original vision of the heroes. Just some sketches that could be finalized in proper artworks, but with these ideas in mind.
Of course, i made these not necessarily to bash on the design of the heroes or to belittle the work of the artists that worked on it and created them, but more as a case study to try to exercise and improve myself.
[I choose to keep the same poses of the idle 3d models, to present the alternative design in a less "misleading" or "cheaty" way than a proper illustration (with dynamic poses and composition etc)]

Bazz - i streamlined her figure, changed hairstyle and removed the puffy shouldepads to make her more nimble, according to her capabilities

DaVeers - kept that they/them stare, got rid of the helmet and "bowel"-design front cuirass and shoulderpads to make a unique piece that better resembled a "firefighter" aesthetic, while still keeping the chemical protective overall

Daw - got rid of the unflattering coat and pants/overall, highlighted the military plate on his chest to suggest a military capability while keeping a calming blue in his now thick jacket that resemble a lab coat; added green and cross motifs, he'sahealer

Duchess - liked her design, just made some adjustments: less ludicrous jumpsuit and expecially less ludicrous cloak, less "comforter" vibe and more "spacey" vibe, extended the cloak color to a long sleeve on the right arm, gave her a red scarf

Emari - i made things a little more squared and spikey, a couple pieces of armor more and a couple less, but especially i think the choice to not have an integral helm give way more character than just making her a sort of standing, big turtle

Haymar - liked her, not much to do, small adjustements to make her design more "incisive" from the start: the dress has more "pieces", the golden elements are more present, a bit of red hair and a bit more of hair in general.

It-Z - she's cool; i don't think she fit very well in the contest of an "hero shooter game" tho, she kinda has the vibe of "just an alien-girl". So i went full on that "alt-girl into music" vibe and made her extrapunk, for fun

Jabali - kinda hated his design, not gonna lie; he reads too generic to be a hero, more of a secondary character. I kept the "hunter" vibe but retouched a lot his outfit to make him more "unique", better weapon and better pants

Kyps - the "retro sci-fi aesthetic" they were going for was a really hard target to center, and so many characters falls shorts on charisma. Kyps had a nice outfit, but was pretty uninteresting as an android: i made her even more "retrofuturistic"

Lark - Lark design was probably based on such specific design by Moebius to result a bit odd to anyone else; her cap is made of steel or is it organic? I just tweaked a bit the design to make it more simple and redeable, with an organic weapon

Lennox - a bit too vanilla even for a spiked alien, but i liked his jacket a lot; i added a rugged shirt and expecially more flashy boots to embrace that space-cowboy aesthetic. Also, a "fake" hairstyle goes a long way

1-Off - overall probably the best Concord design, i just played with it a little giving him more "robotic" legs; he's a robot, why hold a weapon when he can have it integrated?

Roka - i like Roka, but i think her silhouette can be more incisive than "girl in a leotard with big helmet"; without copying Phara, i accentuate her "flying" capabilities with armored rocket-boots, a bit of armor to make her more aggressive-looking

Starchild - tribal tattoes instead of metal plates, robot-arm (sci-fi setting, and this guy is supposed to brawl a lot), actual star in his design and expecially the weapon: i think it can be more hammer-shaped, to suggest his fighter's skills

Teo - he was criminally impersonal and uncharismatic; gave him a cooler rifle, changed the funny-looking armor, and slightly altered face and face gear to something more interesting: headband like SolidSnake, face like a MetalSlug hero, Sayan's scouter

Vale - she has interesting features, but her "dress" kinda quench her overall design; so i pivoted in another theme: Space-Pirate. More "piraty" jacket, more accessorize and unique elements. Space pirates are cool.
